Monastery of Christ Our Savior

Monastery of Christ Our Saviour
Abbey Mews Turvey
Beds. MK43 8DH
England

Roman Catholic
This is one of two Benedictine communities at Turvey who worship in common and work in close co-operation. The monks' guesthouse has been converted from a stone barn. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with lots of books to read, an easy chair in every room and a guest kitchen. This can be a busy place but it is one where personal silence is very much respected. If you are on a private retreat, you will be left in peace to get on with it. As it is a small community, help in the garden is usually welcomed. The life here is deliberately kept simple - organic gardening, tomato growing, and producing pottery are some of the specialties of the monks. Guests are expected to respect the silence of others. Attached to the monastery is the Turvey Centre for Group Therapy. Its main activity is to provide courses, both for beginners and professionals. These are run in conjunction with Brookes Oxford University. The courses take place over weekends with the students being resident at the monastery or nearby. For a private retreat go when the course is not meeting. Although the Community is small in numbers, it is big in talents and if you want to experience what monastic life is about, and then this is one of the best places to do it. Nothing is grand, everything is real - a peaceful place of prayer and seeking God.
