Ecumenical
In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales,  Scargill House is home to a community of Christian men, women, families and young people who come from all walks of life and many parts of the world.  Together they live and work within a broad-based and open-hearted spirituality and there is a strong sense of Christian regeneration here. There is great emphasis on youth work, ecology, ecumenical and interfaith dialogue.  This often makes Scargill House a lively, busy place to stay. However the grounds offer something for everyone: from a children’s play area to an old walled garden, from a “Tarzan Trail” assault course to the sanctuary within the woodland walk, the 100-acre estate is sensitively managed for all types of visitor. The chapel is particularly special: a modern building with high sweeping roof and clear glass windows that look out onto the lovely Wharfedale countryside.  The daily rhythm of prayer brings the community and guests together but it is all very informal and often spontaneous: whoever is moved to lead the prayers is welcome to do so. Highly Recommended.

Scargill House is not just a place
in the heart of the Dales, it is a place to open your heart.

Programmes at Scargill

The community organises and runs a rich and varied programme - you can find out the details by going to Sacrgill's own website where details of the 2005 programme are available. The one we found most exciting was The Bread Makers where you learn about bread making and the shared pleasure of preparing and sharing this food of life and consider the symbolic elements of bread as Sacrament.
