Buddhist Spirituality - Open Spirituality

Sunyata is a beautiful 10-acre property set in the rolling hills of East Clare (West Ireland): a spacious haven outside the bustle of modern life with time for relaxation, contemplation and self-development. There is a varied program of retreats and workshops on offer and the unique workshop venue is also available for hire.Self-catering accommodation for personal retreats is also available outside of the retreat program.

Programme 2006/2007

The retreats listed below offer an opportunity to explore and develop serenity, health and well being, wisdom and compassion, through meditation, mindfulness and affiliated practices in a supportive environment. The teachers provide guidance through various means including meditation instruction, talks, chanting, yoga or chi kung, individual / group discussions, as the different workshops indicate. The meditation retreats are usually held in an atmosphere of meditative silence guided by the teacher to allow a deepening of the practice. All retreats and workshops are suitable for beginners or more experienced practitioners, unless otherwise stated.

Regular Events
Meditation: Wednesday evenings 8-9.30 p.m (No fixed charge-donations welcome)
Yoga: Tuesday evenings 7-8.30 p.m with Camilla O'Callaghan

Open: All year round to all
Rooms/Accommodation: Shared accommodation (from to 2-4 per room). Maximum number centre can accommodate at present is 15
Facilities: Meditation room (can seat up to 30 people), dining room, office, self-catering room
Spiritual Help: All teachers provide expert advice and guidance in meditation or relevant discipline. The resident teacher, Jitindriya (former Buddhist nun) is available for spiritual guidance and counselling
Meals: Wholesome, simple vegetarian
Environment: The centre is set on a hillside on 10 acres and has a lovely creek and waterfall. There are many walks nearby which join up to the way marked East Clare Way.

Charges: Vary slightly - most weekend retreats cost around 160 euros ( covering accommodation, all meals and facility costs). A donation for the teacher is made separately ( unless cost indicates " Teacher fee included")

Hiring the Centre and Meditation Hall

The whole Centre can be reserved for group bookings. The charge includes use of the meditation hall, dining facilities and shared accommodation for up to 15 people ( 2 nights minimum) Catering can be arranged separately. The charge is usually 25 euros per person/per day ( 3 meals). The meditation hall can also be hired as a space on its own for one-day or evening events.
